System Scaffolds (Frame Scaffolds)

Construction · Ver en español

Talking points

  1. Frame scaffolds must be erected per the manufacturer's instructions with cross-bracing installed on both sides at every level.
  2. Base plates and mudsills are required. The mudsill must distribute the load to prevent the scaffold from sinking into soft ground.
  3. Scaffold must be plumb and level. If the base is out of level, the entire structure above is compromised — do not use shims or scraps to level frames.
  4. A competent person must inspect frame scaffolds before each work shift and after any event that could affect structural integrity (wind, impact, rain).
  5. Do not exceed the rated load capacity. This includes workers, tools, and materials on each platform level.

Ask the crew

Is the scaffold we're using today plumb and level — and when was the last competent person inspection?

Standards this talk is built on

A toolbox talk is a short safety briefing. It supports the training a standard requires; it does not replace it.
