Stormwater and Erosion Control
Construction · Ver en español
Talking points
- A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) is required for construction sites that disturb more than 1 acre of land.
- Best Management Practices include silt fencing, inlet protection, construction entrances with gravel tracking pads, and sediment basins.
- Inspect erosion controls weekly and after every rain event that produces runoff. Repair or replace damaged controls within 24 hours.
- Never discharge concrete washout, paint, solvents, or construction debris into storm drains, ditches, or waterways. Use designated washout areas.
- Everyone on site shares responsibility for stormwater compliance. If you see a failed silt fence, an open storm drain, or a discharge, report it immediately.
Ask the crew
After the last rain, did anyone inspect our silt fencing and inlet protection — and are they still functioning?

A toolbox talk is a short safety briefing. It supports the training a standard requires; it does not replace it.
