Scaffold Inspection Checklist Walk-Through

Construction · Ver en español

Talking points

  1. Start at the base: mudsills are level and on firm ground, base plates are centered on sills, screw jacks are plumb, and the scaffold is level within the manufacturer's tolerance.
  2. Check the structure: all cross-braces are in place and pinned, frame connections are locked, ties to the structure are at the required intervals, and the scaffold is plumb.
  3. Inspect the platform: full planking with no gaps greater than 1 inch between planks, planks extend at least 6 inches past the support but not more than 12 inches, and planks are in good condition.
  4. Verify fall protection: guardrails on all open sides and ends, top rails at 42 inches, midrails at 21 inches, toeboards where workers are below, and access ladders or stairs in place.
  5. Check the tag: green tag with today's date and the competent person's name. If any element fails inspection, stop using the scaffold and notify the competent person immediately.

Ask the crew

Let's walk through this checklist together on the scaffold we are using today — starting at the base.

Standards this talk is built on

A toolbox talk is a short safety briefing. It supports the training a standard requires; it does not replace it.
