OSHA Recordkeeping (300/300A/301)

Construction and general industry · Ver en español

Talking points

  1. The OSHA 300 Log records every work-related injury and illness that meets the recording criteria — medical treatment beyond first aid, days away from work, restricted duty, or loss of consciousness.
  2. The 300A Summary must be posted in the workplace from February 1 through April 30 each year, where all employees can see it.
  3. Establishments with 250 or more employees submit their 300A electronically every year — and those with 100 or more in OSHA's designated high-hazard industries submit their 300 and 301 data as well.
  4. All records must be maintained for at least 5 years. They must be available for inspection by OSHA, employees, and employee representatives.
  5. Accurate recordkeeping is not just about compliance — it identifies trends that help you target your safety efforts where they will have the most impact.

A toolbox talk is a short safety briefing. It supports the training a standard requires; it does not replace it.
