Mast Climbing Work Platforms

Construction · Ver en español

Talking points

  1. Mast climbing platforms must be erected, operated, and dismantled according to the manufacturer's instructions by trained workers.
  2. Daily inspections must include mast connections, platform decking, guardrails, drive systems, and safety devices (overload sensors, wind speed limits).
  3. Observe the manufacturer's wind speed limits — most platforms must be lowered when wind exceeds 25-30 mph, depending on the model.
  4. The base must be on a firm, level foundation with adequate capacity. Tie-backs to the structure are required at the intervals specified by the manufacturer.
  5. Workers on the platform must be trained in its operation and emergency procedures, including manual lowering in case of power failure.

Ask the crew

What are the wind speed limits for the mast climber we're using — and what is the procedure if the wind picks up?

Standards this talk is built on

A toolbox talk is a short safety briefing. It supports the training a standard requires; it does not replace it.
