Housekeeping on Construction Sites

Construction · Ver en español

Talking points

  1. Good housekeeping prevents injuries. Trips, slips, and falls from poor housekeeping are among the most common construction injuries.
  2. Remove or bend down protruding nails from boards and formwork as you go. A nail puncture through a boot can cause a serious infection.
  3. Keep walkways, stairways, and access routes clear of debris, tools, cords, and stored materials at all times.
  4. Use designated waste containers — separate construction debris from hazardous waste. Do not allow waste to accumulate in work areas.
  5. Clean up at the end of every task, not just at the end of the shift. The worker who comes after you deserves a clean, safe work area.

Ask the crew

Look around your work area right now — is there anything that could cause a trip, slip, or fall that we should address before we start?

Standards this talk is built on

A toolbox talk is a short safety briefing. It supports the training a standard requires; it does not replace it.
